Headquartered in San Ramon, California, the company traces its history to Standard Oil and was previously known as Standard Oil of California (Socal) and Chevron Corporation after a 1984 merger with Gulf Oil. Its core upstream positions include the Permian Basin, Tengiz in Kazakhstan, the Gorgon LNG project in Australia, and major operations in Guyana following the planned acquisition of Hess. Chevron also operates one of the largest U.S. refining and marketing networks and is investing in renewable fuels, hydrogen, and carbon capture.
